Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963 to a musically inclined family in Newark New Jersey is the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston and John Russell Houston Jr. They are also cousins of the singer Dionne Warwick. The singer began her singing career in a choir at the church she attended The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark as a young child and by the age of 15 was singing backing vocals professionally alongside the mother of her on Chaka Khans 1978 hit Im Every Woman. The singer went on to sing the backing vocals of Lou Rawls Jermaine Jackson and her mother, and also worked briefly as models for the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. The vocals she sang with the New York-based group Material attracted major record labels, including Arista. The label signed her to Arista in 1983 and was a part of the company for the remainder of her career. Whitney Houston, her debut album that debuted in 1985 was the highest-selling album for the debut artist. Many hit songs, including the hit songs Saving All My Love For You How Will I Know It's Good to Love You as well as The greatest Love of All were released from the album, setting the stage for her to beat the Beatles with seven consecutive US numbers one. The album was sold out of 3 million copies in its first season in the US and went on to achieve a worldwide sales of 25 million, earning them the first six Grammys. The Whitney 1987 release, with The album's tracks, such as Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as songs, grew on her success. However, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard sealed her spot among the top-selling musicians of all-time. The Bodyguard's performance as a film as well as its soundtrack weren't appreciated but the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You as well as The Bodyguard album that accompanied it topped charts across the world for several months. That same year she married the former New Edition singer Bobby Brown with whom she was the sole parent of their daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. She was born in the month of March 1993.
